GSAGA’s cultural competency training allows service providers, planners, and leaders in the field of aging to increase their understanding and sensitivity to underserved populations and to improve the quality of services provided to GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender) older adults.

  • In Georgia, there are approximately 834,000 adults over the age of 65; as many as 67,000 of these older adults are gay or lesbian.

  • Three in four gay elders reported not being completely open about their sexualorientation to healthcare workers for fear of discrimination.

  • GLBT seniors are ive times less likely to access aging services than the generalsenior population.
